| http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/6173399/Charles-Darwin-film-too-controversial-for-religious-America.htmlCharles Darwin film 'too controversial for religious America'Creation, starring Paul Bettany, details Darwin's "struggle between faith and reason" as he wrote On The Origin of Species. It depicts him as a man who loses faith in God following the death of his beloved 10-year-old daughter, Annie. The film was chosen to open the Toronto Film Festival and has its British premiere on Sunday. It has been sold in almost every territory around the world, from Australia to Scandinavia. However, US distributors have resolutely passed on a film which will prove hugely divisive in a country where, according to a Gallup poll conducted in February, only 39 per cent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution. | |

| Well, made it to Halifax okay. Halifax people... are any of you currently actually IN Halifax? We leave at 1 PM on January second, and basically have no plans, so let me know if you want to make plans appear!
Doctor Who Christmas special was WOW. Not sure when I'm going to get to see part two though, since I'm off to the NRC as soon as we get back to London. Blarg. Want part two NOW!
Christmas has been full of books and DVDs and CDs. And wonderfully portable gift cards. A lot of those are to food type places, so I'm starting to wonder if our families think we aren't eating or something.
My d*mn AU fic is all formatted so as soon as I get my computer booted and stick the thing on a flash drive I can post it and get it out of my LIFE. :p

| Two quick thoughts about Nine:
(1) It is the story of Gaius Baltar's life if Gaius Baltar was an Italian film director in the 1950s. (2) THERE ARE NOT NINE WOMEN. WTF. I AM NOW REALLY CONFUSED BY THE TITLE. So, wherever I heard it's because there are nine women lied, because it's called Nine because it was based on Fellini's 8 1/2, and whoever made the musical version said that adding music added the final half. Or something. IDK.

| I can't figure out how to embed this, but if you click here, there's a short video clip about a lion, a tiger, and a bear who were raised together and all love each other. It's super sweet. Meanwhile, over at ZooBorns, the Boise Zoo has a new baby cotton-top tamarin! Seriously, click the link. Is that not the absolute cutest monkey face you ever, ever saw? And watch the video! She squeaks through the whole thing! I want to cuddle her. <3 | |

| Christmas was pretty good this year! We were thwarted going to see Nine, but instead we watched True Blood (sidebar: yeah, I started True Blood. I AM LOVING BILL. I am very chagrined by this) and our family dinner was actually incredibly fun and pleasant. I hope everyone else had a wonderful holiday! | |

| I had a good day at work (where I work everyone always cooks something and the nursing home provides us with a free meal, so I'm basically stuffed with sweetie goodness). Midway through the shift we all found out that one of our fellow nurses died today in a horse fire after coming off a night shift. It was on 7 news, so if you're near Toowoomba, you might have seen the segment ( here's a short article). Horrible for the family :(. - Mood:surprised

| So, browsing through Amazon's selection of $5 mp3 albums, I have found that Bryan Adams's 1987 album 'Cuts Like A Knife' is classified as "classic rock." My little sister had that album on cassette when it was new. Now it's classic rock and in mp3 format. That's just not right. :P - Tags:life, music

| You have got to be effing kidding me. This piece of objectifying, condescending, sexist garbage won not only Best Action but Audience Choice in Atom's SW Fan Film Challenge? Seriously? I don't care if it's a parody of those crappy Axe products or not. It's flat out, infuriatingly offensive. Screw you, Atom voters. And dream on. Because no, two hot women are not going to fight over you at first sight, in a bar, using lightsabers, and being disrobed bit by bit for you to ogle and snap cell phone photos of them while you drink beer. But if you quit being the sort of jackass that would vote for this trash, you might someday attract the attention of a real woman - not to mention, you know, making the world a slightly better place. We have enough jackasses already, thanks. Star Wars: Retold (By Someone Who Hasn't Seen It), on the other hand, was pretty funny. And if that's the George Lucas Selects award winner, then the Great Flanneled One has a decent sense of humor about himself. Good for you, George. That helps make up for the poor dialogue. :P | |

| Tonight before dinner: Me: What's wrong?
Dad: Nothing. Just... feeling very grateful this Christmas.
Me: Aww, the Grinch's heart grew 3 times that day.
Dad: Oh shut up.
And OH MY GOD. MY MOM suggested that we have wine with dinner.
MOM.
SUGGESTED WINE.
Hell froze over.

But saying it's from Anonymous is just mean! :-P

| Merry Christmas/Happy Celebration of Your Choice all!
It's mostly been fun being home. Siblings still fight, but not nearly as much as they did once upon a time. University has been good to little brother.
My father keeps insisting that Lorne Green was the bestest Adama evah. Head!Bill has been unimpressed. It didn't stop me from introducing the siblings to BSG though. Gwenna thinks the mini is a little slow paced but it's picked up. Not screaming CYLON! at the Final Five is most difficult though. She's decided Starbuck is a Cylon because she annoys her. Pretty sure that's not how it works. :p
My secret Santa fic is over 2000 words and I haven't finished it yet. Why couldn't my person have requested a short piece of fluff? Instead it's the longest I've written in ages. :p
Shannon came over last night. We were going to go for a walk, but it was pouring rain so we watched Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog. The whole family got a kick out of that. Which... says something about my family.
There's no 10 PM Mass tonight, so we're going to the the 7 PM. Which is going to be... squishy.

| I haven't been on the net because I've had a sudden mad dash of work. This is typical. When my computer was getting cleaned and I was dying of bored, did work ring me? Of course not. When I get my computer back and I want to hang around in fandom and play computer games, does work call? Yes.
But money over the holiday season is good money, so I'm working tomorrow and Sunday - and hoping I might get something on Boxing Day if someone calls in sick or wants a day off. Since I'm working tomorrow, my grandmother and I have already unwrapped Christmas presents and had Christmas dinner - consisting of chicken and turkey and then a port-infused trifle (yum).
I'll be posting photos of both our tree with the presents under it and the unwrapped presents themselves. I think I did well with the gift-giving this year. It was, however, really hard to shop this year. I mean, there was so very much on offer but I felt none of it was practical. I did eventually opt for a new mp3 player however! It's practical! No, really ;). Which turned out to be a dud. Ah well, that's what I get for buying Target's cheap brand. Will have to return it now, grr.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, all! *sends love* - Mood:complacent

| Quark is purr-snoring. The cuteness of that just does me in every time. <3
And TPM is not just as bad as I remember it being. It's worse. Mandy and I are both watching from our respective homes and texting back and forth at key moments. My favorites from Mandy so far: "The crappiness is like badly written quicksand" and "Finally had to mute it. Curse you, George". Mocking one's fandom is a underrated sport, I tell you.

| Man Walks To Michigan Diner With 5-inch Knife In His Chest, Calls 911, Then Orders CoffeeI've spent quite a few years working in food service. I've seen some really weird and disgusting things. I've dealt with customers who were sick, drunk, high, and who couldn't be bothered to take their tongue out of their partner's mouth long enough to say "Two for non-smoking." I have seen customers choke, faint, and have strokes and heart attacks. I'm not overly squeamish, and I tend to be pretty calm in stressful situations. But if I had been working when this man had come in, I don't think I'd have stopped shaking for hours afterward. I'm shivering right now, just having read the tiny article. Props to him for staying calm, but seriously, OMG. | |

(Though seriously, does anyone love me enough to renew my LJ account?)

| So, after years of walloping my sister's ass in the birthday cake department, MEL HAS FINALLY STEPPED IT UP.
I woke up to two cakes- one, a Hello Kitty face and cake shaped and frosted like Madeline. Both homemade chocolate cakes that I love so much, both designed to be AWESOME.
22 is shaping up to be pretty good, so far.
